ITRI Waterproof Nanocoating Smartphone Demo – Taiwan Nano Exhibition



waterproof nanocoating At Taiwan Nano Exhbition the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) showed off some nanocoating technology on a variety of different devices including a mobile phone. How does it work? The waterproof nanocoating is 1000 times thinner than a human hair. A nanometer-thin coating is applied to the producs using a gas which allows it to penetrate inside the casing and repel liquids.

    Sony did use nanocoating on their phone for the water resistence, but you're right, they didn't do the motherboard...good start though!

    Not sure who Sony went with, P2I and Zagg are the big two companies that are offering the tech to OEMs...it's the same tech, I just don't know who provided it.

    AND we're still waiting for it to hit the streets! I'm glad we're FINALLY starting to see handsets with the technology, the Xperia Z is a good start!

    pretty neat I think there is another company that does this if I am not mistaken its liquipel, or something like that, but from what I have read people have been having problems with liquipel. Concept is really cool though feels like we are at that future state:P in movies we should be driving flying cars but this seems good enough
